    Our Accounting and Finance teams play an important role in keeping Gordon Food Service operating effectively and efficiently. From strategic work in the development of annual and long-range operating plans to establishing infrastructure that keeps financial transactions flowing efficiently (our employees and vendors like that!), to credit operations that recognize the unique positions of our customers large and small.....we are reliant on this group of professionals and the work they do each week, each month, each quarter.

    Position Summary:

    Applies accounting principles to compile financial information, maintain general ledger, prepares financial reports, analyze business results, provide financial advice to business, and be a business partner to general managers.


    Essential Functions:

    • Accounting duties to include: weekly/monthly sales/margin reporting, FX spot/forward buys, monitor cash balance, customer rebates, monthly results commentary, CapEx request/payback analysis, SG&A expense, tax accrual, and period-end close transactions (to also include all account reconciliations monthly).
    • Analyzes inventory and Cost of Goods Sold and ensures cost accounting and inventory accounting and internal controls are consistently applied.   
    • Prepares weekly reports to summarize current and projected company financial position to include but is not limited to: gross margin analysis, expense analysis, and management of the trial balance.
    • Ensures sales, margin, product cost, and freight & storage costs are accurate.
    • Analyzes data, draws conclusions and develops reporting for management use.  
    • Works with business to develop the Annual Operating Plan (AOP).
    • Monitors internal control and risk assurance activities and ensures compliance with basic accounting principles and company procedures.
    • Identifies trends and makes recommendations to management regarding cost saving or profit generating opportunities and profitability improvement strategies.
    • Adheres to the mission and cornerstone values and applicable practices of the organization.
    • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature.
    • Ability to manage time effectively and compile information in a timely fashion.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.  Adapts to systems and other changes.



    • 4 to 6 years previous accounting experience with an understanding of cost accounting, internal controls and a level of understanding of information technology or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field is required
